De Jong - AC MilanAC Milan star Nigel De Jong is close to signing a new deal to extend his stay in Serie A, as the club’s attempted revival takes shape.

It appeared the 30-year-old midfield destroyer’s time in Italy was coming to an end, with his current contract about to run out at the end of June, but the Diavolo’s recent ambition in the transfer market has instead convinced him to remain at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza for the foreseeable future.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, the player will put pen-to-paper this weekend on a two-year contract running until 2017, thus disappointing a host of potential suitors including Manchester United.

The former Ajax and Hamburg man joined AC Milan in August 2012 from English Premier League side Manchester City, making 90 appearances in all competitions for the Rossoneri, while scoring seven goals.
