Sunday saw the last matches of Serie A, with the 2014-15 season coming to a close after 38 weeks. With the final whistle blew, Serie A’s European representatives and relegated sides were decided.
Juventus had already been crowned Serie A champions some time ago now, with Roma sealing a second place berth following their 2-1 win in the Derby della Capitale against Lazio.
Sunday night’s most pertinent game pitted Napoli and Lazio, as both fought for the final Champions League qualifying berth. After 38 weeks, Serie A’s big winners and losers are as follows:
Champions League (group stages): Juventus [champions] and Roma
Champions League (playoff round): Lazio
Europa League (group stages): Fiorentina and Napoli
Europa League (third qualifying round): Genoa*
Relegation: Cagliari, Cesena and Parma
* Genoa are in the midst of appealing for their UEFA license, which could see them miss out on Europa League participation and with Sampdoria taking their place instead if revoked.
