Matias Fernandez FiorentinaMatias Fernandez is reportedly close to putting pen to paper and renewing his contract with Fiorentina, with confirmation of his renewal expected to be made official within the next few weeks.

Fernandez’s current contract with the Viola is set to expire in June 2016 and the club’s leadership are eager to see a new deal penned after the Chilean thoroughly impressed under former coach Vincenzo Montella.

According to Corriere Fiorentino, the player’s agent is set to arrive in Italy in order discuss the terms of a renewal, which could see the midfielder’s contract extended until 2018 with a considerable increase in wages as a reward for his services.

Fernandez is currently participating in the Copa America with Chile, though is expected to sign a deal upon his return.

The Chilean made 29 appearances and scored twice in Serie A for the Viola during the 2014-15 season, becoming a regular in the side and a fan favourite which has now led new coach Paulo Sousa to view Fernandez as irreplaceable at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
