Fiorentina star striker Gisuseppe Rossi is back in action following a long injury lay-off, even if it was for a charity match played in New York.

The New Jersey-born attacker has not appeared for his club since May 6, 2014 after suffering a torn medial meniscus in his right knee prior to the start of the 2014/15 season.

The annual ‘Showdown in Chinatown’ is an event organised by former NBA legend Steve Nash and this year’s lineup featured former Juventus hero Alessandro Del Piero as well as various other sports stars including British basketball player Luol Deng.

Fiorentina will be encouarged as Rossi scored a hat-trick for his side as they beat Del Piero’s team 8-5.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia after the match, Pepito said: “I am ready to start the season and I hope to find my best form as soon as possible.

“I have not spoken to [new coach] Paulo Sousa yet but I will return to Florence soon.”

The Italian international has scored an impressive 16 goals in just 22 appearances for La Viola but has endured a torrid time with injuries following his move from Villarreal in January 2013.
