Fresh from sharing the Capocannoniere with Luca Toni, Inter striker Mauro Icardi is being linked with a move to Spanish side Atletico Madrid.

The 22-year-old hit 22 goals for the Nerazzurri in 2014/15, including four in the last three games as Roberto Mancini’s side finished eighth in Serie A, meaning next year will be their first season without European football since the 1999/00 campaign.

Born in Argentina but having spent three years with Barcelona as a teenagaer, Icardi is no stranger to the Iberian peninsula and Sky Sport Italia report on contact between Atletico Madrid and the player’s agent about a move.

However, the Biscione are intent on signing the striker up to a new contract, although now appear to be facing a rival in Atletico, who can offer Champions League football as a way of tempting Icardi away from Lombardy.
