Juventus Barcelona Buffon goalJuventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon wants to play on for three more years in the hope of claiming Champions League glory before he retires.

The Bianconeri captain made some crucial saves in keeping Barcelona at bay in the competition’s showpiece finale on Saturday evening, but it was not enough as the Blaugrana ran out 3-1 winners to ensure the former Parma stopper’s hopes of lifting the trophy remain unfulfilled.

“There was a point in time when I believed we could achieve this feat,” said Buffon in an interview with Tuttosport.

“We didn’t succeed because the opposition’s qualities emerged, not because we didn’t try hard enough.

“But we showed that we are comfortable at this level.

“It’s a shame, but I’ve learned how to balance the moments of joy and disappointment that this sport gives you.

“We started out as underdogs, but we cannot have any regrets over how we played in this final.”

He was then quizzed about his future in the game, with the 37-year-old spelling out a strong desire to carry on in the game.

“I want to remain at this level for another three years at least,” insisted Buffon.

“Then I’ll pull down the blinds [on my career]. I hope to have achieved another dream by then.”
