Former Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero has admitted he was saddened to see the Bianconeri unable to complete the Treble after falling in the Champions League final.

The Bianconeri lost 3-1 to Barcelona in Berlin and despite the defeat, the Italian remarked that he was pleased with the overall success his former club had this season.

“I was very sorry to see Juventus lose the Champions League final.” Del Piero told reporters at the Golf Club charity event organised by Gianluca Vialli.

“It was incredible that the team got to the final so they have to be pleased with how well they did this season.

“It was hard to see [Andrea] Pirlo crying as he is a former teammate of mine with the Italian national team. I felt for Pirlo when he was crying. It must have been very hard for him.

“Myself, Pirlo and Gianluigi Buffon all won the World Cup in Berlin so it must have been difficult for those two to lose in the same stadium.

“Juventus and all the players should be proud as they showed that they are champions both on and off the pitch.”
