Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo has reportedly accepted an offer from Major League Soccer side New York City FC.

The American outfit, who are in their first ever season in MLS competition, already have David Villa and Frank Lampard as their designated players, but could be set to recruit one more global name.

According to AS, the Italian legend has verbally committed to joining the expansion side after meeting with CEO Ferran Soriano.

It is believed that NYCFC’s first option was Barcelona midfielder Xavi, who has since announced his decision to move to Qatar, prompting the club’s swoop for Pirlo.

The 36-year-old does still have a year to run on his Bianconeri contract, but it is thought that coach Massimiliano Allegri would allow him to leave early after the season finishes with the Champions League final on Saturday.

Pirlo will be looking to secure his third Champions League success, having won the famous trophy twice with previous club AC Milan.
