Torino defeated Lazio 7-6 on penalties after 90 minutes could only produce a 1-1 result as the Granata claimed their ninth Campionato Nazionale Primavera at the Stadio Comunale in Chiavari on Tuesday.

The Granata jumped out to an early lead after only eight minutes when a Matteo Procopio cross was headed down before finding striker Simone Rosso, allowing the striker to fire home with his right foot to give the Turin club the early advantage.

Torino failed to double their lead soon after as Claudio Morra couldn’t fire home from close range, while Lazio failed to level the score after the half hour mark when Granata goalkeeper Andrea Zaccagno somehow managed to push Mamadou Tounkara’s effort wide of goal.

The Biancocelesti pressed forward for an equalizer in the second half and were justly rewarded in the 76th minute. Zaccagno misjudged a cross into the area, allowing Franjo Prce to header home and level the score at 1-1.

Extra-time decided nothing so it was off to penalties to decide the 2014/15 Primavera TIM Championship. The decisive moment would come when Torino goalkeeper Zaccagno stopped Lazio captain Gianluca Pollace’s effort, allowing Simone Edera to score and send the Granata to their first title since 1991/92.

The victory means Torino lead the all-time list with nine Scudetti, extending their gap over Inter and Roma to two as both clubs hold seven titles respectively.

The defeat means Lazio and coach Simone Inzaghi will not bring home the Treble, after the Biancocelesti ran out winners in the Coppa Italia Primavera and the Supercoppa Primavera earlier this season.
