English Premier League side Liverpool are considering making a bid for Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez, should their Italian forward Mario Balotelli depart in the summer.
Troublemaker Balotelli looks certain to leave and Liverpool are keen to replace the Italian with haste, consequently lining up Gomez as a substantial figure to fill in the boots of their lacking forward line.
The Reds could strike a deal with the Viola for a fee of €15 million for the struggling German, who has only managed to score four times in the most recent Serie A campaign, after battling against injuries and a loss of form.
However a potential transfer is not only dependent on the sale of Balotelli, as it is likely Fiorentina will not sell unless they are able to replace Gomez with a new forward, namely Mattia Destro who is tipped to be on the way out of Roma.
It also remains to be seen whether new coach Paulo Sousa deems the player as an important piece in his new look squad, though numerous clubs remain in the waiting in addition to Liverpool, with Ligue 1 side Monaco monitoring the 29-year-old.
