Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli may moving back to Inter as part of a deal to take Mateo Kovacic to Anfield.

The Italian international has had a far from successful first season with the Reds in the Premier League, scoring only four times in 28 appearances since moving to Merseyside from AC Milan, but he may be offered a way out with a return to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in order to join Inter.

Sportmediaset reports that the Nerazzurri are interested in the 24-year-old, but note that Liverpool will not let him leave easily and may include him in a deal for long term target Mateo Kovacic.

Inter are refusing to let the 21-year-old Croatian midfielder leave for less than €25 million, which means that Brendan Rodgers may use Balotelli as bait after his disappointing season.

Kovacic, meanwhile, has enjoyed a good season in Italy, chipping in with five goals and a further three assists in 35 games.
