Former Parma captain Alessandro Lucarelli took to the internet to thank the Crociati staff who put their hearts and the interests of the club before money the day after it was confirmed the club will be demoted to Serie D after going bankrupt on June 23.

The 37-year-old also expressed regret that he was not able to succeed in his efforts to save the club after acting as a spokesman for the Ducali’s employees who worked for nothing during the 2014-15 Serie A season.

“To those of you who kept moving forwards in silence, those of you who worked for months without a salary, those of you who above all put your hearts before your wallets, those of you who love Parma and those of you who no longer have a job, to all of you I can simply say thank you,” said Lucarelli on his official Twitter profile.

“Thank you for all you’ve done for us and for Parma in these past few months, I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to win our battle.

“I’m hugging all of you, one by one, Ale.”

Lucarelli has previously suggested that he would like to stick with the club as they are reformed and start again from the amateur leagues.
