Sinisa Mihajlovic SampdoriaSinisa Mihajlovic’s words could be set to haunt him after an old interview with the Serbian was found in which he claimed that he would never join AC Milan.

He played for their cross city rivals between 2004 and 2006 and was on Roberto Mancini’s coaching staff during his initial spell in charge of the San Siro side but now they could be in opposite dugouts during the Derby della Madoninna next season if he does renege on his previous declaration.

In 2010, Mihajlovic gave an interview about clubs he would not join. It is interesting reading as he stands on the brink of potentially becoming the new Rossoneri boss. His response was: “I would never coach Milan. Out of respect to Inter, I would not do this to the fans. I would also never coach Roma, Palermo or Genoa [due to ties with their rivals too].”

Last October, he also said: “I have two dreams as a coach and they have both been realised. The first was to coach Serbia, my country, and the second was to take over at Sampdoria because of my time there as a player and I always like to repay my debts.

“Now I have two more – Lazio and Inter, which everyone knows, but I do not know when.”

His reception from the Diavolo tifosi if he is confirmed, could be a fiery one.
