Outgoing Fiorentina goalkeeper has admitted it is one of the hardest decisions he has had to make in choosing to leave the club this summer.

The 25-year-old joined in 2011 from Atletico Paranense and after a difficult start, soon made himself first choice at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

But in January this year, the club confirmed the news that the net-minder would not be extending his contract and would leave this summer with the former Brazilian U23 international set to seal a move to Juventus.

“Now is one of the most difficult times I have had,” Neto posted on his Instagram account @netoo_89. “I am leaving behind friends and all of the important people I have met for the last five years.

“In Florence, I spent five incredible seasons – growing both as a player but mostly on a human level. I thank everyone who has made this dream a reality, it was an honour to work and live with you from day to day. Thank you Fiorentina, thank you Florence.”

However, some of the responses to Neto’s post were, as can be expected, not the most complimentary towards the future Bianconeri man.

Amidst the well wishes, there were messages suggesting that “you are going only to the the third choice goalkeeper and that is all you are worth. You will play the friendly matches if you are lucky hunchback!” [hunchback being a derogatory term used by fans of other clubs towards Juventus]

Another warned that “you have made a serious mistake and now when you come back, you will only be whistled” while a disgruntled Viola supporter attempted to goad his former hero with a declaration of his support for Brazil’s rivals Argentina during this summer’s Copa America and one fan also told the goalkeeper that he will not be missed “as you only had one good season here anyway.”

The pick of the posts was arguably a well thought out message to tell the goalkeeper what he might be missing: “To enter people’s hearts in Florence is an uphill struggle where you must overcome obstacles. You may have to give up trophies, a higher salary and the chance to play in more famous grounds but in return you will receive the love that we transmit to our team and players. If this is not enough, then we salute you. We only want those who are proud to wear the colours and not mercenaries like you. I hope you do not regret your choice in the future.”
