The fiasco at debt-ridden Parma finally ended, as the club faces relegation straight to Serie D.

The drop from Serie A to the fourth division was the latest step in Parma’s spectacular fall from grace, as recent negotiations to rescue the club have fallen through.

The Corrado Group, who had looked set to purchase the Ducali as recently as last weekend, pulled out of a deal and with the race to find new investors not bearing any fruits.

Calcionews24.com reported that former Major League Baseball player Mike Piazza had also withdrawn his interest in buying the club. With the deadline for a sale seemingly passed last Friday, Parma face imminent demotion to Serie D and out of Italy’s professional leagues.

Having finished bottom of Serie A last season, Parma were facing relegation to Serie B even if a buyer had been found. Without such investment Serie D looms, making the players currently contracted at the club free agents in the process.
