Real Madrid have confirmed Rafael Benitez as their new coach.
The 55-year-old recently left Napoli after two seasons with the Partenopei, though he was unable to qualify for the Champions League this season, ending his reign at the Stadio San Paolo with a 4-2 defeat to Lazio, and subsequent drop to fifth in Serie A.
“Real Madrid will today present Rafa Benitez as the new coach of the first team for the next three seasons,” a statement on the club’s official website read.
“An event will take place in the palco de honor at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu , then Rafa Benitez will appear before the media in the press room.”
Benitez takes over from Carlo Ancelotti who was sacked after finishing the season behind Barcelona in La Liga, and exiting the Champions League at the semi-final stage.
