Roma are ready to let Ashley Cole return to the Premier League after only one season in Italy, with Newcastle United looking to land the 34-year-old.

The former Chelsea left-back joined the Giallorossi on a free transfer last summer, but after only making 11 Serie A appearances, coach Rudi Garcia is prepared to let the veteran leave this summer.

The Daily Star reports that Cole is anxious to leave the Italian capital in favour of a return to England, with Newcastle ready to sign the defender.

New Magpies boss Steve McClaren is looking to reunite with Cole after working together while with the English national team from 2004 to 2007, when McClaren was an assistant before becoming senior team coach in 2006.

Cole has one year remaining on his contract with Roma.
