AC Milan’s dream of constructing their own stadium in the Portello district of the city came a step closer on Tuesday evening when the Rossoneri’s proposals made it through to the next stage of the bidding process.

Milan have harboured ambitions for some time now to follow in the footsteps of Juventus and erect their own purpose built and fully owned arena, but they are not the only organisation with an interest in developing the area in the north west of the city, as two other companies also submitted plans to the foundation responsible for managing the site.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Executive Board of Fondazione Fiera Milano have progressed Milan’s proposal to the next stage of the process along with those of the Vitali construction company who want to use the space to build a luxury hotel and leisure facilities. They rejected the scheme for a technological center put forward by the Prelios asset management group.

The two approved bids of AC Milan and Vitali will now run off against each other in a final round of negotiations with the winner to be announced in the coming weeks.
