Roma v SampdoriaSampdoria will be playing in the Europa League during the 2015-16 season after Genoa withdrew their final appeal as they gave in with their quest to obtain a UEFA licence.

The Grifone finished sixth in the table which was the final Europa League qualifying place but were denied a licence after failing to name a venue to host games while the Stadio Luigi Ferraris undergoes renovations, Samp were awarded with a licence after naming Sassuolo’s Mapei Stadium as their alternative choice of stadium

Sky Sport Italia reported that Genoa failed in their final appeal to be granted a UEFA licence and the Rossoblu will therefore be prohibited from competing in Europe while local rivals Sampdoria take their place in the competition.

Genoa’s Lawyer Mattia Grassani announced that he was withdrawing the club’s final appeal after exhausting every possible avenue.

“Out of a sense of responsibility and respect towards the institutions, considering the insistence of the FIGC and very rigorous rules surrounding the UEFA licence, we withdrew our appeal,” said Grassani as the Rossoblu threw in the towel.
