mihajlovic-ferreroSampdoria owner Massimo Ferrero has penned an open letter to the club’s fans and Sinisa Mihajlovic, the coach who led the Blucerchiati to seventh in Serie A but has since left Liguria.

Enigmatic film entrepreneur Ferrero has been a livewire off the pitch during his first season as owner of Sampdoria, with the open letter looking back on the 2014/15 campaign.

“Last night our first championship came to an end, which I have loved so much,” Ferrero stated.

“When I arrived in Genoa I was asked what film title I would give to this squad and I said Ben-Hur, it is in that spirit of beauty that we now start work for next season.

“Sunday after Sunday, everyone played their part; the coach, the staff, the team, the fans.

“It was our destiny to perhaps reach Europe and if Genoa reach it on sporting merit then we will step back; if we reach it then through the art of official documents and fair play then we will represent Genoa and Liguria with pride.”

That tongue in cheek reference to Genoa’s UEFA License appeal reinforces the popular notion that Ferrero has been an entertaining figure at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, where the Serbian has now left.

“We are very sorry to lose a coach who worked so well; thank you for everything and good luck with all my heart for your tomorrow!

“Special thanks to the fans, the most beautiful in the world with the Blucerchiati colours printed in their hearts.”
