alex ac milanSantos president Modesto Roma has confirmed his club have pulled out of the race for AC Milan’s Alex, deeming the defender ‘too expensive’.

The 33-year-old Brazilian international only joined the Rossoneri last summer from Paris Saint-Germain, but has been linked with a return to his homeland after only one season in the Serie A.

Roma confirmed to Tuttomercatoweb that they were interested in the defender, but his demands were now out of the club’s reach, while also admitting Milan’s interest in their young star Gabriel Barbosa.

“We are no longer interested in Alex. Certainly, we recognize his quality, of course, but at this moment his wages are too expensive for us,” Roma confirmed.

“Are there any players interesting Serie A clubs? Yes, for example many clubs are asking me about Gabigol [also known as Gabriel Barbosa].

“There were discussions about him going to Milan as part of the Alex deal a couple of months ago, but then the deal broke down.”
