Reports from Italy are suggesting that Sassuolo are close to securing the signing of Federico Bernardeschi from rivals Fiorentina, as they seek striking reinforcements to help extend their stay in Serie A.

The 21-year-old had a disrupted 2014-15 season after suffering an injury to his ankle, but still made the squad for Italy’s unsuccessful European Under-21 Championship campaign in the Czech Republic this summer.

With high hopes for the attacker in Florence it remains to be seen whether the Neroverdi are looking to secure Bernardeschi on a permanent basis, but according to Tuttomercatoweb a deal is about to be finalised.

Greater playing time is clearly needed for him to fulfil his potential, and Bernardeschi will surely be expected to partner fellow Azzurrini man Domenico Berardi in attack now that Simone Zaza has returned to Juventus.

Bernardeschi made seven league appearances for Fiorentina and scored one goal during the 2014-15 Serie A season whilst he scored twice from three appearances in the Europa League.
