Swansea are preparing a formal offer for the services of Sampdoria striker Stefano Okaka.

The 25-year-old Italian international has developed into a key member for the Blucerchiati since joining from Parma in 2014, but may be offloaded in the summer.

Sport Italia report that Swansea boss Gary Monk sees Okaka as the perfect successor for Wilfried Bony, who left to join Manchester City in January and wasn’t properly replaced.

Monk also sees Okaka as a player who is capable of challenging Bafetimbi Gomis for the solitary spot up front, and is ready to act on his long-standing interest in the player by presenting a formal offer.

French side Saint-Etienne have also been accredited with interest in Okaka, and look set to challenge Swansea in the race for the towering striker.

A move to Swansea would mean a return to the English Premier League for the ex-Roma striker, who spent a brief stint on loan at Fulham in 2010.
