Conte - italy v PortugalFIGC president Carlo Tavecchio has stated that Antonio Conte’s position as Italy coach will be re-evaluated after the 2016 European Championship, though he hopes the former Juventus boss will stay on beyond his current contract.

The 45-year-old took over as Azzurri coach in August 2014 following the resignation Cesare Prandelli, and while his contract is set to expire after the tournament in France, Tavecchio is hopeful Conte will stay on past then.

“We are very happy that we made the choice to make Antonio the national team coach. He will be in Czech Republic on Sunday to watch the Italy Under-21 against Portugal,” Tavecchio told Sky Sport Italia.

“He has a contract until Euro 2016 and that will be respected of course. We want him to stay beyond that so we just have to wait and see.”

The controversial president also spoke about the current state of the game in the peninsula and what he hopes for the future.

“We have identified some rules for the future of football in Italy, particularly in short-term commitments by clubs to get their balance sheets and management of the club in order.

“They cannot continue to operate with unsustainable costs. These criteria will be a recommendation to all clubs, then made rules soon after.

“We hope in the space of four years all clubs will conform to these criteria.”
