Sevilla’s Europa League winning coach Unai Emery has emerged as a surprise candidate to take over from Rafael Benitez at the Stadio San Paolo ahead of next season.
The 42-year-old has previously been linked with taking charge at AC Milan, but with the Rossoneri stalling as they attempt to convince Carlo Ancelotti to return to Milanello, it seems that the Partenopei could be about to snatch the former Valencia tactician from their northern rivals.
Radio Marte reports that Napoli are very close to agreeing terms with Emery and that president Aurelio De Laurentiis is set to travel to Spain in in attempt to complete a deal.
It is believed that Emery is interested in taking over at Napoli and that an agreement is close with the deal missing only a few details.
It was expected that Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic was set to be named as Napoli’s new boss after the Serb resigned his position in Genoa on Monday, but it now appears that De Laurentiis is exploring other options.
