AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati has renewed his contract with the club.

The Rossoneri shot stopper has played less than usual throughout the 2014/15 Serie A season due to the arrival of Diego Lopez from Real Madrid, but despite the fact that he looks set to continue being number two in the squad next season, he has signed a new contract.

Milan’s official website announced that the 37-year-old is now tied to the club for another season until his contract runs out in June 2016.

Abbiati joined the side from Monza in 1998, and has appeared 374 times since.

Once he came back from a loan spell at Atletico Madrid in 2009, he became first choice keeper before an injury and was then replaced by Dida.

He then took the place of Dida before being replaced by Diego Lopez as number one.
