abbiatiAfter securing a one-year deal to extend his stay at AC Milan, Christian Abbiati has admitted that when he began his journey at the Stadio Meazza he was barely able to speak to his teammates.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper claimed that after joining the Rossoneri first-team squad it took him two years to speak to club legend Paolo Maldini.

“Fifteen years with Milan are a lot and I am proud of having had them,” Abbiati told Milan Channel.

“I remember being so embarrassed on my first day I did not say a word. It took a couple of years before I could have a chat with Maldini.”

With the Rossoneri starting a new era under coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, the veteran goalkeeper noted that the Serbian is already getting to work on the players.

“The boss is already showing what he wants,” claimed Abbiati. “[Goalkeeping coach Alfredo] Magni is also a great, we have an excellent relationship.

“There are also the young Gabriel and [Gianluigi] Donnarumma, two excellent goalkeepers, that in perspective, are willing to listen to the advice of the older goalkeepers.”
