AC Milan defender Philippe Mexes looks set to renew his contract with the club.

The French defender, who caused high controversy last Serie A season after he grabbed the neck of Lazio’s Stefano Mauri, was expected to leave the Rossoneri in the summer but instead looks likely to remain at the Stadio Meazza next year.

Sky Sport Italia reported that the deal is almost done and all the details have been decided, but the side will wait for the transfer of fellow defender Adil Rami to Sevilla to be completed before they keep the 33-year-old for definite.

Mexes has technically been a free agent since the beginning of July, after his contract with AC Milan ran out, but now he looks set to resign and extend his stay.

The French defender joined the side in 2011 and has appeared 107 times for the Rossoneri since.
