The 37-year-old veteran was due to leave the Stadio Meazza outfit but decided to sign another one-year deal.

“I informed the club of my availability, it took me just 30 seconds to sign the contract,” the veteran shot-stopper told Premium Sport. “I’ll retire once Milan win another title.”

“There is also a new coach in Sinisa Mihajlovic, who has us all hugely motivated.

“Mihajlovic has great charisma and character, but he’s also demanding of himself and us.”

Abbiati was then quizzed on his season expectations saying: “One thing is for sure, I don’t want a repeat of last season.”

Milan finished a poor tenth in Serie A under previous tactician Filippo Inzaghi, at the end of the 2014/15 campaign.
