Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller looks to have given up on the pursuit of Inter’s Mateo Kovacic.

The Croatian’s agent had already entered in contact with the Bundesliga club’s emissaries in Milan, with Bayer Leverkusen looking keen to step up their approach by meeting Inter’s reported €22 million valuation.

It now however looks as though Bayer Leverkusen have dropped all interest in Kovacic, with negotiations reportedly stalling and Voller admitting defeat in the chase for the 20-year-old midfielder.

“Kovacic is a very interesting player but he is unlikely to arrive at Leverkusen,” Voller said on FcInterNews.it.

“We have a few other names on our shortlist, even if negotiations [for Kovacic] could get moving again in the coming days.”

The young playmaker had joined Inter from Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb in an €11 million deal in January 2013, and has made 85 appearances for the Nerazzurri since his move to the Stadio Meazza.
