AC Milan’s president Silvio Berlusconi has expressed a thought about seeing Stephan El Shaarawy play as a midfielder.

Indeed, since the dual signing of Carlos Bacca and Luiz Adriano, El Shaarawy’s place in the starting lineup looks to have come under jeopardy.

However, Berlusconi would have offered a solution to fit all his forwards into the starting lineup during Sinisa Mihajlovic’s press conference at Casa Milan, by dropping El Shaarawy deeper into midfield.

“For me El Shaarawy is a left sided midfielder, I am convinced of it,” Berlusconi said.

El Shaarawy has had difficult times since his breakthrough season in 2012-13, when he scored 16 Serie A goals for the Rossoneri. Injury-plagued years followed when he only managed 27 appearances in all competitions over the last two seasons.

With the arrival of new forwards likely to hinder on his ability to get consistent playing time, the Rossoneri president’s solution could prove an unexpected boon for the 22-year-old forward.
