Ervin Zukanovic ChievoDefender Ervin Zukanovic has joined Serie A club Sampdoria after rejecting rivals Inter to join the Ligurians from Chievo.

The Gialloblu signed Zukanovic permanently after a successful loan spell from Belgian side Gent, where he spent the 2013-14 season before joining Chievo and making 29 appearances for the Veronese side that finished 14th in the last campaign.

Suitors were lining up for the 28-year-old and the Nerazzurri were believed to be firm favourites for the defender’s signature before the Blucerchiati swooped in with the tempting offer of Europa League football before finalising the deal for a fee of around €3 million according to Tuttomercatoweb.com.

Furthermore, full-back Fabrizio Cacciatore will move on loan in the opposite direction with a view to a permanent move.

The 28-year-old had spent the last two seasons with the Flying Donkeys’ local rivals Hellas Verona after having come through the academy at Sampdoria but the defender failed to make much of an impression on the first-team in Genoa.

By joining Sampdoria, Zukanovic will be the first Bosnian to represent the Blucerchiati.
