Everton remain on keen on luring Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna to Merseyside although fellow Premier League side West Ham look favourites to secure his signature.

It is believed that the Italy international will fly to the English capital this week to discuss a deal with the Hammers – one which could bring in up to €12m for the Italian champions.

The Liverpool Echo are reporting that Roberto Martinez’s side are keen on replacing central defender Sylvain Distin who departed Goodison Park this summer and view the former Torino ace as a suitable option.

Ogbonna, who has chalked up 41 league appearances since joining the Old Lady, is thought to be on the radar of Southampton too although their interest could be diminished after they captured the versatile Cuco Martina this week.

With Daniele Rugani returning to Juventus Stadium this summer, Ogbonna was set to fall further down coach Massimiliano Allegri’s pecking order.
