Fiorentina are set to complete the signing of Basel right-back Taulant Xhaka from new coach Paulo Sousa’s former club.
The Albanian international played an important role as the Rotblau won the Swiss Super League last season under the Portuguese manager’s leadership.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the 24-year-old is on the verge of joining Sousa in Florence following weeks of speculation.
The combative defender would fill the Gilgliati’s need for a right-back, but his versatility is valued by Sousa who is also comfortable fielding him at centre-back, or as a defensive midfielder when the need arises.
Xhaka made 40 appearances in all competitions last season and impressed many with his tenacious tackling and attacking forays down the right flank.
Fiorentina have endured a difficult start to their transfer campaign following the Mohamed Salah debacle.
However, the Viola are finally set to make Napoli goalkeeper Luigi Sepe and Taulant Xhaka their first signings of the summer.
