Aside from Xherdan Shaqiri, four other Inter players have been deemed surplus to requirements as the club look to trim their squad and wage bill.

All four, who have been told that they can leave if the offers are right for all parties, are interestingly defensive players – who the Nerazzurri have fielded interest in already this summer.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Roberto Mancini wants to significantly reduce the squad in order to comply with the 25-man limit and thus the first departure could see Juan Jesus exit for Spartak Moscow.

The Brazilian defender currently earns €700,000 per season – which is €100,000 less than the annual wage banked by Yuto Nagatomo who has been told he can join Sampdoria this summer.

Davide Santon’s return to Inter looks set to be a brief one and he is being closely linked with a move back to England to join Premier League new boys Watford.

Nemanja Vidic will also be allowed to leave the club this summer however the former Manchester United man has already rejected moves to both Wolfsburg and the MLS and could choose to stay and fight for his place at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Speaking about the situation, Mancini said: “The squad limit is 25 and unfortunately some will have to go as currently we have other 30 players. Santon and Shaqiri will be two great acquisitions for the Premier League.”
