Sampdoria are already discussing the future of coach Walter Zenga after the club’s 4-0 defeat to Vojvodina in first leg of their Europa League qualifier.

The 55-year-old tactician took the reigns in June after Serbian coach Sinisa Mihajlovic left to join AC Milan, however his future already looks doubtful after his first competitive game in charge.

Sky Sport Italia have confirmed that Zenga’s future is uncertain and that his Doria career will very much depend on his side’s efforts in the return leg in Novi Sad next week, with a meeting between the coach and club president Massimo Ferrero imminent.

Speculation is mounting that the club hierarchy are already drawing up a shortlist to replace Zenga, with Roberto Donadoni, Cesare Prandelli and former Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella all rumoured to be possible candidates to succeed the former Palermo coach.

Zenga returned to coach in Italy after spending the last five years coaching various sides in the Middle East.
