Napoli v Trabzonspor Europa LeagueNapoli central midfielder Gokhan Inler is the subject of a fierce transfer tug-of-war between Istanbul rivals Galatasaray and Besiktas.

The 31-year-old former Udinese star rejected a move back to the Zebrette as part of the proposed deal to bring Brazilian Allan to Naples, as it would’ve also seen him subsequently shipped off to fellow Pozzo family-owned club Watford in the Premier League.

According to the Turkish website Haberkita, Galatasaray have already reached an agreement with the Swiss international’s representatives over a wage package worth €2.5 million per year, while Besiktas get ready to launch another concerted effort to secure his signature having shown an earlier interest.

Inler made 33 appearances in all competitions for the Partenopei over the course of the 2014-15 season, but only 19 of those came in domestic league action.

Overall, he has amassed 259 Serie A outings during his eight years spent in Italian football, while notching 15 goals along the way.
