AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani has said that the club’s main transfer priority is to sign a central defender.

So far this transfer window, the Rossoneri have waved goodbye to defenders Adil Rami and Daniele Bonera, leaving a squad hole that must be filled before the start of the new Serie A campaign.

Club supremo Galliani has confirmed that the side are aware of the importance of a fully-stocked defence, saying: “The only goal is a central defender.”

Milan have been heavily linked with a move for Roma starlet Alessio Romagnoli but thus far have been unable to meet the capital side’s valuation of the player.

“Romagnoli? By offering so little, what can we do.” joked Galliani when quizzed upon the situation.

Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men have also been showing interest in Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour, a move that could experience movement now that Milan have helped the principality out through the sale of Stephan El Shaarawy.
