Gilardino - Palermo v FiorentinaAlberto Gilardino has turned down a move to Greek champions Olympiakos, as he is still hoping from a call from Fiorentina.

The 33-year-old Italian international returned to parent club Guangzhou Evergrande at the end of the season, after the Viola opted against making his loan move permanent at that moment in time.

The veteran is still said to be under consideration from the Fiorentina hierarchy, and his chances would have been boosted by the news that the club let go of striker Mario Gomez to Besiktas this week.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Gilardino received a proposal from Olympiakos and an unnamed English Premier League side last week, but turned down both opportunities.

The striker is understood to be waiting for a call from Fiorentina boss Paulo Sousa, and would accept a reduced role this season.

Gilardino netted four goals in 14 matches for the Viola last term.
