Inter have distanced themselves from Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, as West Ham United look close to bringing the former Cameroon international back to England.

Despite the eye-catching signing of former Monaco man Geoffrey Kondogbia, the Nerrazzuri are still looking to strengthen in midfield.

After seemingly missing out on long-term target Yaya Toure it was thought that attentions may instead turn to Song, but the Nerazzurri are said to be concentrating on other targets.

The Daily Mail has reported that the 27-year-old former Arsenal midfielder will sign a permanent deal with West Ham after spending the 2014/15 season on loan at the East London club.

A fee of €3 million has been agreed between the Hammers and Barcelona, while Inter have withdrawn their interest in the player as they look to Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva and John Obi Mikel of Chelsea.

Song is the cousin of one-time Salernitana defender Rigobert Song and made 48 appearances for Cameroon before announcing his international retirement in January 2015.
