Inter’s attempts to sign Wolfsburg midfielder Ivan Perisic have been dealt a blow following Xherdan Shaqiri’s rejection of a move to Schalke.

The Nerazzurri were thought to be close to securing a deal for the Croatian international, however the transfer may be scuppered if they cannot raise the necessary funds from selling Shaqiri.

According to Calciomercato.it , the Swiss international’s wage demands are holding up the deal, whereas Sportmediaset.it go as far as to say that Shaqiri would prefer to stay in Italy and fight for his place in the first team.

Despite this, the winger will be willing to leave in the January transfer window if his lack of playing time continues.

Shaqiri joined Inter in January on loan from Bayern Munich but has failed to establish himself as a permanent first team member, making just eight starts.
