Xherdan Shaqiri InterTo sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez, Inter could offer winger Xherdan Shaqiri in a swap deal to bring the Spaniard to the Giuseppe Meazza.

The 28-year-old is available from the 2013/14 La Liga champions, having made just 20 league appearances in the previous campaign, and the Nerazzurri are very interested in bringing him to Serie A.

However, after considerable spending on central midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, Inter owner Erick Thohir has put the transfer on standby as they consider the state of their financial kitty, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

One way of saving money and bringing in their man is to offer the Swiss winger, who is deemed surplus to requirements by Roberto Mancini but can be considered a replacement for Arda Turan by Atletico, should the Turkish midfielder leave the Spanish capital.

Talks are ongoing and no concrete offer has been made, but with coach Diego Simeone an admirer of Shaqiri, this could be the catalyst in Suarez leaving for Italy and could see Premier League side Stoke City miss out on the mercurial attacker.
