Argentine defender Matias Silvestre could be set to extend his stay at Sampdoria after a potential move to Turkish side Trabzonspor fell through during negotiations with the club.

The 30-year-old centre-back spent the 2014-15 campaign on-loan at the Blucerchiati from Serie A rivals Inter and could return on a permanent deal.

According to Il Secolo XIX the former Palermo man’s move to Turkey fell through after travelling over to discuss terms with the club but was unconvinced by senior officials during talks.

Silvestre made 29 league appearances for the Genoa-based outfit last term and has a wealth of Serie A experience after spending four seasons in Sicily with Catania and then the Rosaneri.

However, after moving to the Nerazzurri in 2012, his career at the Stadio Meazza never really took off and appeared just nine times under their employment.
