Inter are set to offer Switzerland winger Xherdan Shaqiri and cash for Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela, with the Argentine said to be keen on leaving the north London club to make a return to Serie A.

The former Roma star spent two seasons with the Giallorossi after signing from River Plate in Argentina for a reported €14 million in 2011, and has failed to make a significant impact since his move to the English Premier League in 2013, showing only flashes of his potential during his time at White Hart Lane.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri coach Roberto Mancini is a fan of the 23-year-old and could offer cash plus Shaqiri, after the former Basel winger reportedly turned down a move to Stoke City during the week and is deemed surplus to requirements at the Stadio Meazza, despite only signing in January on-loan from Bayern Munich.

With an obligation to buy the Swiss winger in the summer for a reported €17m if he made ten or more appearances, the Nerazzurri could now off-load the former Basel player in exchange for Lamela.

The Argentine made 62 appearances, scoring 19 goals during his first spell in Serie A with the Giallorossi and is part of the Argentina national squad at the Copa America where they face Chile in the final on Saturday night in Santiago.

Shaqiri + £10m then it will probably be worth doing.

Nathan…Shaqiri + £10m is a no brainer but that will never happen. Shaqiri is built for the English game whereas unless Lamela bulks up like Bale did, he will always be to lightweight to effectively play in the BPL.
