Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has been ruled out of the upcoming Supercoppa Italiana fixture.
The Italian limped off against Lechia Gdansk in pre-season earlier this week, and tests have revealed a lesion to his upper thigh which has thrown his availability for the start of the Serie A season into doubt.
Fellow defender Andrea Barzagli is also experiencing a spell on the sidelines, providing Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri with a defensive dilemma ahead of the cup fixture against Lazio.
The Supercoppa Italiana takes place in Shanghai, China on August 8.
Chiellini also missed last season’s Champions League final through injury, a match which the Bianconeri ultimately lost to Barcelona.
Juventus open this season’s Serie A campaign against Udinese on August 23, a date which club medical staff are optimistic about Chiellini recovering by.
