Juventus midfielder set to become heir to Andrea Pirlo

Claudio Marchisio JuventusJuventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has reportedly extended his contract with the Turin club and an official announcement is expected on Monday.

The 29-year-old’s current deal is due to expire in June 2016 but both Marchisio and the Bianconeri are keen to continue their relationship.

According to La Stampa, the new agreement will see the Italian international remain with La Vecchia Signora until the summer of 2019, by which time the player will be thirty-three.

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli is expected to make the announcement, stating that Marchisio “is the heir to [Andrea] Pirlo”.

The versatile midfielder is a product of the Juventus youth academy and has made over three-hundred appearances for the Bianconeri since his debut in 2006.

He made fifty-two appearances for the club in 2014/15, winning the Scudetto and Coppa Italia, before playing the full ninety minutes in Juve’s Champion’s League Final defeat to Bracelona.
