Lazio are still yet to agree a renewal with versatile forward Stefano Mauri after the contract of the former captain expired on June 30.

Negotiations are still ongoing between the two parties and another meeting has been arranged for Wednesday in the hope that the 35-year-old will commit his future to the club.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that Mauri returned early from his holiday to discuss further with Biancocelesti president Claudio Lotito, however the player has refused the club’s first contractual offer.

The initial deal allegedly included a salary of less than €1 million a year, which Mauri has since considered to be too low.

The retired Italy international has been at the club since 2006 and has made a total of 241 appearances, scoring 41 goals.
