Giovanni Malago, President of CONI, the Italian Olympic Committee, warned to have patience with regards to the verdicts of the trials of the latest betting scandal.

The latest bout of the Calcioscommesse scandal revealed the involvement of Catania president Antonino Pulvirenti, who confessed to fixing five Serie B matches in order to secure his club’s safety.

After a virulent outburst from Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero, Malago called for calmness in the interest of the judicial process.

The CONI president also addressed the Italian Football Association’s (FIGC) request for quicker decision-making from the sporting justice, expressing the possibility of abbreviating the duration of sporting trials in Italy.

“You’ll have to ask me about the situation of Italian football on August 10,” said Malago to ANSA.

“Because a lot will come out in the next month from the sporting justice.

“To avoid creating any sort of alibi or problem to anyone, we will ratify the new rules on July 27 [making trials shorter], but they can already be used as they will be confirmed.”
