Matteo Darmian TorinoManchester United have given up on their pursuit of capturing Matteo Darmian’s signature.

The Red Devils had identified Darmian as an ideal candidate for their right-back position, but United coach Louis Van Gaal has subsequently turned his attention to Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.

According to Turin based newspaper Tuttosport, Van Gaal’s side have ended their interest in the 25-year-old Azzurri international.

Napoli, however, still remain interested in signing Darmian even though Torino president Urbano Cairo values the player at €20 million.

Maurizio Sarri, Napoli’s new coach, has also identified Sassuolo’s Croatian right-back Sime Vrsaljko as another possible target as the Partenopei look to strengthen defensively in their objective of returning to the Champions League.

Darmian joined Torino in the summer of 2012 from Palermo and his impressive performances for the Granata have since earned him 13 caps for the Italian national team.
