Manchester United would be keeping tabs on Lazio defender Stefan De Vrij, should their capture of Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos fail.
The English Premier League giants have been heavily linked with a move for the Real Madrid defender, but due to the complication of such a move, the Red Devils would have formulated a backup plan.
Manchester United coach Louis Van Gaal has turned his attention to Dutch centre-back De Vrij, according to newspaper De Telegraaf.
Van Gaal helped the Lazio defender’s integration into the national team, when the Manchester United coach was the Dutch coach during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The 23-year-old centre-back made 30 Serie A appearances in his maiden season, helping Lazio to a third place finish and a Coppa Italia final.
